Performance Training in Clayton, NC

Train Smarter. Move Better. Go Further.

Being pain-free is the floor, not the ceiling. Performance training at Beyond Movement is built for CrossFit athletes, Hyrox competitors, and weightlifters who are ready to train with intention. Our provider holds a DPT, CSCS, and CMFA and coaches at CrossFit Clayton.

What Keeps Strong Athletes Stuck at the Same Level Long-Term

Training Hard Without a Real Plan

Consistency without structure leads to plateau. Without benchmarks and progressive programming, athletes keep putting in the work without seeing the gains they're capable of.

Old Injuries That Never Got Fully Addressed

Movement deficits left over from past injuries quietly cap performance. Compensation patterns show up in lifts, runs, and competition — until someone actually identifies and corrects them.

Working With Someone Who Doesn't Know Your Sport

Generic trainers don't understand the demands of functional fitness. Programming that isn't designed for CrossFit, Hyrox, or weightlifting athletes often doesn't account for how those sports actually load the body.

How It Works

Three Steps to Moving and Performing at Your Best

Assess and Understand

We evaluate how your body moves, identify what’s limiting your performance or causing pain, and give you clear answers — not guesswork.

Restore and Rebuild

Through hands-on treatment, targeted movement work, and progressive loading, we eliminate pain and build a lasting foundation — so what breaks down doesn’t keep breaking down.

Perform and Progress

Recovery is the floor, not the ceiling. We take you beyond pain relief into peak performance — back to lifting, running, CrossFit, or whatever you love stronger than before.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about performance training at Beyond Movement — answered clearly.

Do I need to have been injured to work with Beyond Movement?

Not at all. Performance training is available to healthy, active adults who want structured programming from a credentialed provider. You don't need a history of injury to benefit from working with a DPT and CSCS — in fact, getting ahead of movement deficits before they become injuries is one of the best uses of this service.

How is performance training different from hiring a personal trainer?

A personal trainer holds fitness certifications. Our provider holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, a CSCS, and a CMFA — and coaches at CrossFit Clayton. Performance training here starts with a clinical movement assessment. Your program accounts for your movement quality, injury history, and sport-specific demands in a way a general trainer isn't trained to address.

What sports and training styles does this program support?

The primary focus is functional fitness athletes — CrossFit, Hyrox, weightlifting, and powerlifting. We also work with runners, Burn Bootcamp participants, and active adults with specific performance goals. If your sport involves structured training and measurable benchmarks, we can build a program around it.

What does a performance training session look like?

Sessions are 1-on-1 with Austin Chiang, DPT, CSCS. Depending on where you are in your program, a session might include movement screening, strength training, plyometric progressions, BFR work, or return-to-sport testing. Every session has a purpose tied to your current benchmarks and upcoming goals.

Can performance training and physical therapy be combined?

Yes — and for many athletes, this is the most effective path. If you're coming out of a PT plan of care and ready to push back into full training, transitioning into performance programming with the same provider means nothing gets lost in translation. Your clinical history and movement data carry directly into your performance program.
