Physical Therapy in Clayton, NC

Your Pain Has a Source. Let's Find It.

You work hard to stay active. When pain gets in the way, you need more than rest and generic exercises. Every session at Beyond Movement is 1-on-1 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy — no aides, no double-booking, no cookie-cutter plans. We assess and understand what's driving your pain, then build a hands-on plan to address it at the source.

What Happens When the Wrong Plan Keeps You Sidelined? Again.

Pushed Through It — Made It Worse

Ignoring pain and scaling back rarely solves the underlying issue. Without understanding what's actually driving it, the problem keeps coming back every training cycle.

Got Generic Care That Missed the Point

Standard PT clinics treat sessions as checkboxes — an aide walks you through a band routine, you see the DPT for five minutes. That's not the level of care active adults need.

Waited So Long It Became Chronic

What starts as a nagging knee or shoulder issue can become a long-term limitation if the root problem is never addressed. Getting answers early changes the outcome.

How It Works

Three Steps to Moving and Performing at Your Best

Assess and Understand

We evaluate how your body moves, identify what’s limiting your performance or causing pain, and give you clear answers — not guesswork.

Restore and Rebuild

Through hands-on treatment, targeted movement work, and progressive loading, we eliminate pain and build a lasting foundation — so what breaks down doesn’t keep breaking down.

Perform and Progress

Recovery is the floor, not the ceiling. We take you beyond pain relief into peak performance — back to lifting, running, CrossFit, or whatever you love stronger than before.

Real results from active adults who came in with pain and returned to training.

My son has visited here several times. I have also sent several of my youth athletes here. Tons of knowledge , great communication and great service. Highly recommend for athletes of all ages.

First of all, this is one of the dopest humans I have met. I don’t often find someone I instantly click with, especially when it comes to the medicine/training. He is respectful and down to earth and really encouraging. His insight is exceptional and I feel very safe with him as a physical therapist as well as someone who has a background in training. I will never go anywhere else and highly highly recommend!!
Kimberly Lyn
Austin is one of the most creative and compassionate physical therapists and coaches I have been able to work with! He truly cares about getting you back to the things you love and won't settle for anything less. His approach will encourage you to believe in the healing capacity and strength of your body which is invaluable when working through pain and injury.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about physical therapy at Beyond Movement — answered clearly.

What does a first physical therapy session look like?

Your initial evaluation is a 60-minute 1-on-1 session with Austin Chiang, DPT. We'll assess your movement, identify what's driving your pain or limitation, and build a plan of care tailored to your training goals. No aides, no generic intake forms and band exercises. Initial evaluation is $200.

Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?

No referral is needed. North Carolina is a direct-access state, so you can schedule your free consultation and initial evaluation without a physician referral. We recommend starting with a free discovery call so we can confirm the fit before your first visit.

Can I keep training while I'm in PT?

In most cases, yes — with smart modifications. One of the advantages of working with a performance-focused DPT who also coaches CrossFit is that we understand how to keep you moving safely during the rehab process. We'll give you clear guidance on what to load, what to scale, and what to avoid.

How much does physical therapy cost at Beyond Movement?

The initial evaluation is $200. Follow-up sessions are $170–$200 depending on your plan of care. We're cash-based, which means no insurance red tape, no visit limits, and no interruptions to your plan. HSA/FSA accepted. Superbills provided for out-of-network reimbursement — we can't guarantee what your plan will cover.

How is cash-based PT different from going through insurance?

When care is driven by insurance, visit frequency, session length, and treatment decisions are subject to what the insurer will approve. At Beyond Movement, your plan of care is built around your goals — not their guidelines. Sessions are 60 minutes, 1-on-1 with a DPT every time, with no arbitrary visit limits.
